Hi, I’m Dan, the photographer behind RS Photography. Based in Worcestershire, I have a particular passion for wildlife and aviation photography, along with an interest in long exposure and night photography. My aim is to capture genuine moments, whether that is a bird in flight, an aircraft cutting through the sky, or the movement of light after dark.

Where It Started

My journey into photography began with a simple idea: to slow down, spend more time outdoors, and pay closer attention to the details that are often missed.

What started as a hobby quickly became something much more. The more time I spent behind the camera, the more I began to understand how light, timing, movement and composition can completely change the way a scene is seen.

Photography has encouraged me to look at familiar places differently and to appreciate the moments that only last for a fraction of a second.

What I Shoot

My main areas of photography are wildlife and aviation, with long exposure and night photography adding a more creative side to my work.

Wildlife photography gives me the opportunity to capture natural behaviour as it happens. From birds in flight and woodland wildlife to coastal species and birds of prey, I enjoy photographing subjects in their natural surroundings without trying to control the scene.

Aviation offers a completely different challenge. Whether photographing historic aircraft, modern military aviation or fast-moving displays at airshows, I enjoy capturing the speed, engineering and character of aircraft both in the air and on the ground.

I also enjoy working after dark, using longer exposures to photograph light trails, illuminated aircraft, night landscapes and other scenes where movement and artificial light can transform an everyday location.

Patience is a major part of all three. Sometimes the best photograph comes after hours of waiting, while at other times it appears with almost no warning.

Approach & Style

My photography is built around natural light, strong composition and authenticity.

I prefer images that feel believable and true to the moment rather than heavily staged or over-processed. Editing is an important part of photography, but my aim is always to enhance what was already there rather than completely change the scene.

With wildlife, that means working around behaviour and the environment. With aviation, it means anticipating movement, positioning and light. With long exposures, it is about using time itself as part of the composition.

Every situation is different, and that unpredictability is one of the things I enjoy most.

My Kit

My current camera setup includes the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and Canon EOS R7, giving me the flexibility to work across wildlife, aviation, landscapes and low-light photography.

For wildlife and aviation, having fast autofocus, strong subject tracking and the ability to work with longer lenses is particularly useful when subjects can move quickly and unpredictably.

However, equipment is only part of the process. Understanding the subject, reading the light, choosing the right position and anticipating what might happen next are just as important.

Beyond the Image

RS Photography is not only about sharing the finished photograph.

I also enjoy showing some of the work that goes into creating an image, from choosing locations and planning shoots to photographing events, experimenting with techniques and processing the final photograph.

Through my galleries and social media, I want to share the stories behind the images as well as the photographs themselves, alongside occasional photography tips, behind-the-scenes content and experiences from different locations and events.

Every photograph has a story behind it — whether it took seconds to capture or hours of waiting.
