The person behind the lens

Hi, my name is Dan and I’m the person behind RS Photography—a photographer based in Worcestershire with a passion for capturing the natural world and aviation at its most authentic.

Where It Started

My journey into photography began with a simple goal: to slow down, spend more time outdoors, and notice the details most people overlook.

What started as a hobby quickly became something more. The more time I spent behind the camera, the more I began to see differently—not just what was in front of me, but how light, movement, and timing could come together to tell a story.

“Photography taught me to slow down and see what others miss.”

What I Shoot

I specialise in wildlife and nature photography, focusing on real, unscripted moments.

From birds in flight to quiet woodland scenes at sunrise, my aim is always the same—to create images that feel natural, immersive, and alive. I regularly shoot in locations such as Wyre Forest and local nature reserves, where every visit offers something different.

Patience plays a huge role in my work. It’s not unusual to spend hours—or even days—waiting for the right moment. But when everything aligns, it makes the shot far more rewarding.

“The best moments in nature aren’t planned—they’re earned.”

Approach & Style

My style is built around natural light, clean composition, and authenticity.

I prefer to capture scenes as they happen rather than heavily stage or over-edit them. Working with changing light, unpredictable wildlife, and the environment itself is part of the process—and part of what makes each image unique.

It’s about being in the right place, at the right time, and ready when that moment appears.

My Kit

My current setup includes the Canon EOS R5 Mark ii and Canon EOS R7, giving me the flexibility to capture everything from wide landscapes to distant wildlife.

These allow me to react quickly in fast-moving situations, especially when photographing birds and other unpredictable subjects. But for me, gear is only part of the equation—understanding behaviour, light, and timing matters far more.

“It’s not about the camera—it’s about knowing when to press the shutter.”

Beyond the Image

Through RS Photography, I aim to do more than just share photos.

I want to give insight into the process behind them—whether that’s through behind-the-scenes content, location guides, or practical tips for other photographers looking to improve their skills.

Every image has a story, and this is where I share it.

Final Note

If you enjoy wildlife, nature, or simply seeing the world from a different perspective, you’re in the right place.

My Story

My journey into photography began in my early 20s, when I picked up my first camera—the Nikon D5300. At the time, it was simply a way to get outdoors more and capture what I saw, but it didn’t take long before it became something much more meaningful. Photography quickly turned into a way of slowing down, observing the world differently, and appreciating the details that often go unnoticed.

As my interest grew, so did my kit. I added the Nikon D800, which gave me more flexibility and opened the door to improving both my technical skills and creative approach. With time, patience, and plenty of trial and error, I started to develop my own style—focused largely on wildlife, nature, and capturing authentic moments.

More recently, I’ve made the move into the Canon system, upgrading to the Canon EOS R5 Mark II and Canon EOS R7. These cameras have allowed me to push things further—whether that’s tracking fast-moving wildlife or capturing finer detail in challenging conditions.

But while the gear has evolved, the reason behind it hasn’t changed. It’s still about being out there, waiting for the right moment, and capturing images that tell a story.
