There’s something special about standing beside a classic aircraft and appreciating the details that modern aviation often hides away.

From weathered cockpit instruments and riveted fuselage panels, to polished propellers and historic markings, this collection was all about capturing the craftsmanship and character of vintage aviation. Every angle tells part of the story — not just of the aircraft themselves, but of the pilots, engineers and crews who kept them flying.

This beautifully preserved trainer carried decades of aviation heritage across its metal skin. The close-up details, warning stencils, canopy reflections and cockpit instrumentation offered a glimpse into a different era of flying — one where navigation, skill and precision mattered every second in the air.

I wanted these images to feel immersive:

🐾 THE GREAT SOCK HEIST 🧦

Some dogs chase balls.
Some dogs chase sticks.
And then there are the professionals… the elite-level laundry thieves.

This little legend proudly marched through the garden carrying their latest “prize” like they’d just completed a top-secret mission. The expression says it all — absolutely no guilt, only pride and determination.

What made this shot work so well was the combination of natural light, soft background blur and that perfect moment of eye contact while carrying the stolen sock. Sometimes pet photography isn’t about perfect poses — it’s about capturing personality, character and those everyday moments that make them unforgettable.

The sunlight helped bring out the texture in the fur while the darker sock adds contrast and instantly draws attention to the story within the image.

One thing’s for certain:

The aircraft that helped train a King 👑✈️

The iconic de Havilland Chipmunk remains one of Britain’s most recognisable training aircraft — a design that helped shape generations of RAF pilots.

This particular aircraft also carries a remarkable royal connection, with King Charles III having trained on the Chipmunk during his RAF and Royal Navy flying instruction in the early 1970s.

Now, more than 80 years after the Chipmunk’s first flight, these beautifully preserved aircraft continue to celebrate an important chapter of British aviation history.

The de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk first flew in 1946 and became a primary RAF trainer aircraft.

DE HAVILLAND CHIPMUNK - 80 YEARS ON

First taking to the skies on 22nd July 1946, the iconic Chipmunk remains one of the most recognisable and beloved training aircraft ever built. Designed as a post-war replacement for the Tiger Moth, the Chipmunk went on to train generations of RAF, Royal Navy and air force pilots around the world.

Even eight decades later, its timeless lines, distinctive engine note and elegant handling continue to capture the attention of aviation enthusiasts wherever it appears.

These images were captured during a fantastic day around the airfield, showcasing both the static beauty and flying grace of this historic aircraft. From detailed ground shots to take-off and landing moments, each frame reflects a small part of the Chipmunk’s remarkable story and enduring legacy.

It’s incredible to think that an aircraft first flown in 1946 is still turning heads and taking to the skies today.

Grace upon the Water | Still Waters, Wild Souls

A peaceful afternoon by the water turned into a chance to capture the quieter side of wildlife photography. 🪶

This collection features Canada geese and mallards in their natural rhythm — preening, feeding, gliding through reflections, and creating those split-second moments where light, texture, and movement all come together.

Some of my favourite images from this set were the close-up behavioural shots:

* Water droplets frozen in motion
* Reflections breaking across the lake surface
* Feather detail illuminated by low light
* Calm portraits contrasted against dark water

The darker tones and reflective water gave the whole session a moody cinematic feel, while the small details — especially the feather textures and ripples — helped bring each image to life.

Wildlife photography isn’t always about dramatic action. Sometimes it’s about slowing down long enough to notice the details most people pass by.

🪿 Before & After Edit Breakdown 🎨📷

For this Canada Goose portrait, the goal wasn’t to completely transform the image — it was to bring out the mood, feather detail and natural textures that were already there in the original shot.

The RAW file started fairly flat and soft in tone, especially due to the overcast lighting and muted water reflections. The edit focused on creating a darker, moodier wildlife portrait while still keeping the bird looking natural.

Main adjustments included:

• Lowering highlights to recover detail in the pale feathers
• Deepening blacks and shadows to add contrast around the neck and water
• Increasing texture and clarity to enhance feather detail
• Slightly boosting warmth in the browns for richer plumage tones
• Darkening the water background to isolate the subject more cleanly
• Adding subtle sharpening around the eye and face for extra focus
• Mild vignette to draw attention toward the centre of the frame

The biggest difference came from controlling tonal contrast. By darkening the surrounding water and increasing separation between the black neck and lighter body feathers, the goose stands out much more strongly without looking over-processed.

This type of edit works especially well for wildlife portraits where the pose is calm and the textures do most of the storytelling.

Sometimes the best edits aren’t about adding more — they’re about guiding the viewer’s eye to the details that were already there. #waterfowl #wildlife #photographylife #edits #canon

🖤 SHADOWS AT THE FEEDER 🖤

Sometimes the best wildlife moments happen much closer to home than expected.

This jackdaw made a quick but confident visit to the feeder, pausing just long enough for a few clean frames before disappearing again. The dark plumage against the soft background light created a dramatic contrast, while those unmistakable pale eyes immediately became the focal point of the image.

What I enjoy most about photographing corvids is their intelligence and awareness. They rarely stay still for long, constantly scanning their surroundings while deciding whether to trust the space around them. Capturing that brief moment of focus, detail and behaviour is what makes garden wildlife photography so rewarding.

A simple feeder.
Natural light.
One alert visitor.
And a split second worth capturing.

Nature doesn’t always need vast landscapes or rare species — sometimes it’s right outside the window. 🐦

🚁 LIFELINES FROM THE SKY 🚁

There’s a completely different atmosphere when the unmistakable sound of rotor blades fills the air.

The Welsh Air Ambulance is far more than just an aircraft — it’s a flying critical care unit, carrying highly skilled crews to people in urgent need across Wales. Watching and photographing this helicopter in action was a reminder of the precision, teamwork and responsibility involved in every single flight.

This collection focused on capturing both the power and purpose behind the aircraft:

📸 Clean side profiles against open skies
📸 Dramatic light and shadows during landing sequences
📸 The intensity and presence of the aircraft at low altitude

The bright red livery against the blue sky created incredible contrast, while the spinning rotors added movement and energy to every frame. From distant passes overhead to low-level approaches over the landscape, every moment felt purposeful and controlled.

Beyond the photography itself, there’s real respect for what this crew represents. These aircraft respond when seconds matter most — delivering advanced medical care to people who may otherwise be unreachable in time.

✈️ FROZEN FRAMES, MOVING POWER ✈️

One of the biggest challenges in aviation photography isn’t simply keeping an aircraft sharp — it’s capturing the feeling of movement.

For this set, the focus was all about slower shutter speeds to create natural propeller and rotor blur while still keeping the aircraft itself sharp and detailed. It’s a balancing act between timing, panning, stability and a little bit of luck.

From helicopters hovering against heavy skies to aerobatic aircraft climbing vertically through smoke trails, every frame demanded a different approach. Fast shutter speeds can freeze an aircraft perfectly, but slowing things down adds energy, realism and atmosphere — transforming a static image into something that actually feels alive.

The spinning blades, circular prop arcs and motion trails are what bring these aircraft to life:
• Helicopters showing full rotor movement instead of frozen blades
• Light aircraft with smooth prop arcs during take-off and landing
• Aerobatic displays captured with motion and drama intact
• Golden-hour approaches where the light and movement combine perfectly

Tracking aircraft at slower shutter speeds takes patience and consistency. Tiny movements become magnified through long lenses, and every pass is different depending on speed, distance and light. But when it all comes together, the result feels far more dynamic than a completely frozen frame.

This collection is less about static aircraft portraits — and more about capturing the motion, power and rhythm of flight itself.

81 years on, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who fought for freedom.

This VE Day poster was created as a tribute to the generation who stood united during one of history’s darkest moments — honouring the bravery of RAF crews, servicemen, women on the home front, and all who played their part in securing peace in Europe on 8th May 1945,

The initial act of Germany’s military surrender was signed at 02:41 on 7 May 1945 at the Supreme Headquarters of the Allied Expeditionary Force in Reims, France. A revised version of the agreement, recognised as the official German Instrument of Surrender, was then signed in Karlshorst, Berlin on 8 May 1945 at 22:43 local time.
